Conversation
with a Lake
paintings
and other works inspired by a Morris Graves' Foundation residency
During
the month of April, Stephen Rock presents select work
inspired by a 2005 Morris Graves Foundation residency at The Lake in
Northern California. Rock was given access to the property, studio and
artist's library of the late Morris Graves. During the stay he explored
themes dealing with a retreat from technology and how that effects our
world view, our relationship with nature and the change of pace when
disengaged from a modern lifestyle. The work presented is from 2 of
7
suites the artist developed: Suite II, The 6 stages of not being
Morris
Graves (watercolors on handmade paper) and Suite VI, Simple observations
in nature (sumi ink on rice paper).

In conjunction with this exhibit, the Jeffrey Moose Gallery willl be
exhibiting
Suite IV: Meditation on Simplicity (scrolls, sumi ink and dried
pigments on rice paper)
in the Rainier Tower Mezzanine at 1301 Fifth Avenue, Seattle.
March 28th - June 30th
